The Development of Knowledge Management Model for Fire Protection System Business in Petroleum and Petrochemical Industries

Abstract


The purpose of this research was to 1) study important knowledge and important factors for development of knowledge management model for fire protection system business in petroleum and petrochemical industries 2) develop knowledge management model 3) create knowledge management manual. The study was a mixed method of qualitative and quantitative approaches, consisted of main steps: (1) study fire protection system business, important knowledge and important factors for development of knowledge management model by in-depth interview top managements of leading companies in fire protection system business, (2) survey important knowledge and key success factors of knowledge management from employees and customers by questionnaires, (3) development of knowledge management model and manual by analysis result of qualitative and quantitative data, and (4) checking and evaluating the appropriateness of knowledge management model and manual by luminaries of fire protection system business, petroleum and petrochemical, and knowledge management from the private and public sectors by focus group. The results of this study were as follows: 1) the important knowledge of fire protection system business in petroleum and petrochemical industries consists of 6 knowledge categories: Product, Regulation and standard related to product, Sales and Marketing, Design, Service and maintenance, and English. 2) the knowledge management model for fire protection system business in petroleum and petrochemical industries consists of 4 main components : Leader’s roles, Knowledge management system, Supporting factors, and Result. 3) the focus group of luminaries concluded with highest degree of evaluation that the developed model and manual are suitable and beneficial, concise and easy to implement, and consensus that the developed model and manual are practical for the business.
