The Model Development and Evaluation of Facilitator Competency Development on Teachers Instructor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Technical College

Abstract


This research was aimed 1) to examine the current situation of facilitator competency development on teachers / instructors in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Technical Colleges, 2) to develop a model of facilitator competency development on teachers / instructors in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Technical Colleges, and 3) to evaluate the model of facilitator competency development on teachers / instructors in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Technical Colleges. The target group which was examined regarding the current situation consisted of 198 teachers / instructors who were chosen using stratified sampling method from the Department of Industrial Engineering at 5 Technical Colleges under the Institute of Vocational Education Central Regions 1-5, namely 1 college from 1 region. The target group regarding the development and the evaluation of feasibility and suitability consisted of 16 experts and relevant people who had expertise, understanding and experience in facilitator competency development and they were chosen using purposive sampling method. The research findings were as follows: 1) the current situation of facilitator competency development on teachers / instructors in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Technical Colleges showed that (1) the knowledge which teachers / instructors had at the lowest level involved the focus on the nature of learners and how to link and integrate learning; (2) the skills which teachers / instructors practiced the least involved note-taking and skills related to other educational institutes; and (3) the attitudes which ranked the lowest among teachers / instructors involved giving information to other educational institutes and collaboration with teachers / instructors in other educational institutes to develop their own potentials; 2) the final model of facilitator competency development on teachers / instructors in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Technical Colleges after the group conversation consisted of 6 components as follows: (1) understanding and awareness; (2) problem analysis; (3) integration; (4) stimulating learners; (5) observing and note-taking; (6) reflections; and 3) the model evaluation of the facilitator competency development in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Technical Colleges was at the highest level.
